  • Clik Clak

I meant to post about this short animated CGI film a few weeks ago, but was too busy with other work.

Clik Clak is a short film about robots who communicate through reverse-onomatopoeia (actions that make words). Is very amusing, and a masterpiece of small-scale animation.

  • BUSA photos

I’ve made a makeshift version of my gallery app for my BUSA pictures. The gallery is offline for a short while, it’ll be back soon.

    Update

Snotrag@Descentworld had a (very) short report up for the XC Champs…

The 2006 BUSA ‘’hiking with un wieldy objects’’ race went off really successfully…

Describes it pretty well I thought!

  • Short BUSA Report

Could it be any colder? Two nights of camping in the sub-zero conditions were enough for me, I went to a Travel Lodge for the saturday night!

The XC Champs race was super tough, I was so knackered by the 4th lap. I was 16th, Geoff was 17th, and Gavin was 19th. We did win the team silver prize though! :o)

In the XC Sport race neither Adam or Tim finished (we think). Tim managed to bin it on the final jumps and bend his bars to the point that they were almost unrideable!

In the DH our very own legend, Adam Stanyer, lived up to expectations and cleared the road gap on his final race run. I was so busy shouting I forgot to take a picture, oops! He finished 7th overall, very nicely done mate!

Will have more proper results up for Edinburgh folks in a bit, and some pics too :-D

  • Directions From Edinburgh -> Eastridge BUSAs

Made up some directions for folks to use, as well as grabbing some maps etc. Available as a PDF (Better for printing).

  • More Shiny Bits

With the British University Sports Association (BUSA) mountainbike champs this weekend, it was time to break out a shiny new drivetrain for it. I got one of these beauties, a SRAM PG990 cassette. Not only does the red alloy ring carrier make it weigh less than an XTR, it is also super bling. Even more bling when my hub is clean (It is now!).

I was hoping to have a new RaceFace handlebar and stem for this weekend, but the handlebar has been delayed at the supplier, so looks like it’ll be the old stuff for the weekend. Should be good :o)

  • Eight Habits Of Highly Successful People

I saw the above written on a desk yesterday (Click for a bigger and clearer version). To save your eyes I have this handy transcript of it…

7 8 Habits of Highly Successful People

    1. Skiing.
    2. Snorkeling.
    3. Yachting.
    4. Shopping.
    5. Holidaying in Aruba.
    6. Drinking champagne.
    7. Cow-tipping.
    8. Kicking poor people.

Sounds like a standard easter break holiday in Aruba to me, except perhaps for the skiing and the cow-tipping (Do they have cows in Aruba?).

Yet another quality piece of desk vandalism from an Edinburgh University lecture theatre. Made me laugh in my astronomy lecture anyway!

Oh yeah, the guy obviously got bored halfway through, as ‘Alltogether now! YMCA!’ appears randomly, skewing the items of the list!

  • Scotland 18 - England 12

What a gemmee! For the first time in 6 years, the Scots rugby team reclaimed the Calcutta Cup! I thought the first half was a bit poor with referee, Alan Lewis, being really strict on the poorly formed scrums.

All good in the end though! Pic courtesy BBC Sport.

    SCOT-LAND! :o)

  • I'm 21 Today!

    All say YAH!

    Here’s to future maturity……PAH!!

  • I got my new wheel!!

Finally got my Pro II built up this week. Between the weight savings of the hub, and using DT Revolution spokes, I’ve saved 160g over my previous wheel! I was 4 short when it came to blue nipples, but I made up the defecit using purple pink ones. And the best bit? It sounds total awesome!

My forks are waiting on some spare parts, so I have a Giant Reign 2 on loan at the moment. Is a stunning bike, and combined with my new wheels it is even better! :o)

Some pics of the wheels, click for big:

  • For Sale: Hope XC Ti/X517 Rear Wheel [SOLD]

Now that I finally have my new rear wheel built up, it’s time to sell the old one. Specs are as follows:

    • Hub – Hope XC Rear 32hole Blue w. Titanium Freehub body. Dated 07/2002. Complete new bearing kit fitted 11/2005. Freehub serviced 02/2005.
    • Rim – Mavic X517 black. New 05/2005. Never been used with rim brakes.
    • Spokes – DT Swiss Competition 2.0/1.8mm dia. Silver. New 05/2005.
    • Nipples – DT Swiss alloy. Anodised Blue. New 05/2005.

I’ve owned this hub since new, and it has had 2 rims including this one on it in that time. As far as the alloy nipples go, they look ace with the hub, and I haven’t had the seizing/breaking problems that seems to be the urban-legend these days. Wheel is true to +/- 1mm. Hub bearings have no play in them, and freehub is freshly packed with grease. I replaced a few bent spokes while I was servicing the freehub, so the wheel is in pretty good condition.

    NOW SOLD. Thanks for looking.
